Southern Cross Hospital Rotorua is a modern surgical hospital serving the local community and the greater Bay of Plenty region. The hospital is characterised by a friendly, professional surgical nursing team, and offers credentialled medical practitioners and their patients access to superb facilities. These include three advanced theatres, 22 inpatient beds in comfortable, well-equipped rooms, and a purpose-built day stay facilities.

Surgical specialities include Orthopaedic and General surgery, Urology, Otolaryngology, Minor Plastic Surgery, Gastroenterology, and Gynaecological surgery. The broader Rotorua campus is shared by Canopy Cancer Care.

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

We're seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join our Theatre team, working across a range of surgical specialties in a modern and well-resourced perioperative environment. This is an excellent opportunity for a theatre nurse who enjoys variety in their work and is passionate about delivering safe, high-quality patient care throughout the surgical journey.

As part of our multidisciplinary team, you'll contribute across the perioperative setting as a scrub and/or circulating nurse, supporting a wide range of procedures and ensuring theatre sessions run safely and efficiently. You'll work closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, anaesthetic technicians, and our wider team, applying your clinical expertise to achieve excellent patient outcomes while maintaining the highest standards of care.

This role offers the opportunity to further develop your theatre nursing experience across multiple specialties while working within a supportive team environment. You'll be joining a group of dedicated professionals who are committed to continuous improvement, collaboration, and providing an exceptional experience for every patient who comes through our theatres.

This role is worked across a rostered weekday schedule, offering consistency and work-life balance while supporting the needs of the theatre service. This is a full-time (1 FTE) permanent position based in our Southern Cross Rotorua Hospital.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

  • Registered Nurse with a current New Zealand practising certificate
  • Minimum of two years' recent experience in an operating theatre
  • PDRP Level 2 or currently working towards this
  • Experience working in scrub and/or circulating roles
  • Sound clinical knowledge of perioperative nursing practice
  • Commitment to delivering safe, high-quality, patient-centred care
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Well organised, adaptable, and able to perform confidently in a busy theatre setting
  • Committed to ongoing professional development and continuous learning
  • Previous private hospital experience would be advantageous but is not essential
