Registered Nurse – Theatre 

Southern Cross Gillies Hospital, in Epsom, is designed with a focus on short stay surgery and family-centred care. The hospital has four theatres, a purpose-built day-stay facility and 20 in-patient beds with ensuite facilities. A centre of expertise for head and neck surgery and otolaryngology (ENT), it also offers oral and maxillofacial, gynaecological, plastic and reconstructive and general paediatric surgery, backed up by friendly, highly professional nursing teams and systems designed to benefit patients of all ages. 

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced or Senior Registered Theatre Nurse to join our dedicated perioperative team in a permanent, full-time (1 FTE) position. Working in our modern operating theatre environment, you’ll primarily support surgical services across ENT, Head & Neck, and Gynaecology, playing an important role in delivering exceptional care throughout the perioperative journey.

As a key member of the theatre team, you’ll bring strong clinical expertise and confidence in both scrubbing and circulating roles. From preparing patients and equipment, to assisting during procedures and helping theatre lists run smoothly, your skills and attention to detail will help ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical care every day.

You’ll be joining a supportive and collaborative team that values professionalism, teamwork, and continuous improvement. Reporting to the Theatre Services Manager, you’ll work closely with skilled surgeons, anaesthetists, and multidisciplinary colleagues to deliver safe, innovative, evidence-based care. Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

  • A New Zealand Registered Nurse with a current practising certificate
  • Minimum of three years’ experience working in Operating Theatre 
  • You are ideally an experienced or senior Registered Nurse who brings advanced clinical knowledge, confidence in the operating theatre, and the ability to support and guide colleagues within the team
  • Ability to work confidently across multiple surgical specialties and adapt to changing theatre lists
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • A calm, organised, and adaptable approach in a fast-paced surgical environment
  • A positive, professional attitude and commitment to delivering exceptional patient care
  • Previous experience in private healthcare is advantageous
