We are looking for an experienced Registered Nurse who has a passion for mental health and helping our whānau in the community in Wairoa.  

We are flexible about how this might look. Tells us what would suit you. It might be a part-time position 2 days a week, or it could be a full-time position based in Hastings where we pay you to travel to Wairoa a few days a week. 

Te Taiwhenua o Heretaunga (TToH) is well respected, health and social services provider, supporting our local community in Hawkes Bay and whānau throughout the East Coast of the North Island.  Our health, social, education and community development teams have been working successfully with whānau for over 37 years.  

Our Oranga Hinengaro team provides mental health support using kaupapa Māori values and we deliver mental health support with aroha and compassion.  Working alongside our Support Workers, you will visit our clients together and guide them through their journey to wellness. 

Suitable candidates for this community-based role will be Registered Nurses with experience in community mental health.  The successful candidate will need to be assertive and non-judgmental, along with the ability to work with a sense of compassion and the ability to relate to all walks of life is essential.      

In this role you will:

  • Use your assessment skills to respond to treatments and adapt approaches to accommodate Tangata whaiora and whānau needs.
  • Proactively anticipate and recognize cues to situations and predict outcomes, referring to other clinical team members.
  • Assist tangata whaiora and whānau to integrate the implications of illness, and recovery activity into ongoing plan of care
  • Initiate interventions and monitor untoward effects, reactions, therapeutic responses, toxicity and incompatibilities related to interventions
  • Engage Tangata whaiora and whānau in therapeutic relationships and keep them involved in treatment
