Southern Cross New Plymouth Hospital is a modern private surgical hospital serving the city and wider region since 1983. As the only private surgical hospital in the city, the hospital features advanced theatres and comfortable patient facilities, with 36 inpatient beds, and a dedicated day-stay facility. 

The team provides excellent pre- and post-operative nursing care across a wide range of elective surgical services, including Orthopaedic surgery, Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Oral and Facial Maxillary, Urology, Otolaryngology (ENT), Plastic Reconstructive and Cosmetic surgery, and General and Endoscopic surgery.

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Registered Nurse with theatre experience to join our perioperative team in a permanent role (0.8 – 1.0 FTE). This is a fantastic chance to be part of a supportive, high-performing team within a modern private surgical hospital where patient care and teamwork are at the centre of everything we do.

In this role, you will play a key part in delivering safe, high-quality perioperative nursing care across a range of surgical specialties. Working alongside surgeons, anaesthetists, and a multidisciplinary theatre team, you will contribute to a smooth and efficient operating theatre environment while ensuring patients receive exceptional care throughout their surgical journey.

You will be someone who enjoys working as part of a close-knit team, brings a positive and proactive approach to patient care, and takes pride in delivering the highest standards of perioperative practice.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

  • A New Zealand Registered Nurse with a current practising certificate
  • Ideally a few years’ experience working in an Operating Theatre environment
  • Ability to work confidently across multiple surgical specialties and adapt to changing theatre lists
  • A high level of professionalism, reliability, and accountability in day-to-day practice 
  • A flexible and adaptable approach to working rostered shifts within the theatre environment
  • A proactive attitude with a commitment to patient safety and high standards of care
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • You are ideally an experienced or senior Registered Nurse who brings advanced clinical knowledge, confidence in the operating theatre, and the ability to support and guide colleagues within the team
  • Previous experience in private healthcare is advantageous
