Southern Cross Hamilton Hospital is a well-equipped private surgical hospital based in central Hamilton, proudly providing a wide range of surgical specialties to the wider Waikato community for many years. Our hospital has eight fully equipped operating theatres, 43 inpatient beds (including four high-dependency unit beds), and a purpose-built Day Surgery Unit. We offer a range of specialties, including but not limited to, orthopaedics, gynaecology, ophthalmology, neurosurgery, spine, and general surgery specialties.
Comfortable facilities, combined with the very latest in technology and on-site support services, enable independent credentialled medical practitioners to undertake a wide range of procedures. These include routine investigations to complex surgery, with their expertise supported by caring, professional nursing teams.

We're looking for an experienced Registered Nurse to join our Theatre team at Southern Cross Hamilton Hospital on a 0.9 FTE basis (9 days per fortnight). Working across both scrub and circulating roles, you'll support a range of surgical specialties and play a key role in delivering safe, high-quality patient care.
You'll work alongside skilled surgeons, anaesthetists, and theatre professionals in a modern surgical environment where teamwork, clinical excellence, and patient outcomes are at the heart of everything we do. This is a fantastic opportunity for a theatre nurse who enjoys variety, values collaboration, and takes pride in delivering exceptional perioperative care.
This is a permanent part-time position (0.9 FTE) based at Southern Cross Hamilton Hospital.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
- New Zealand Registered Nurse with a current Annual Practicing Certificate
- At least 3 years' experience working within an operating theatre environment
- Proven experience in both scrub and circulating roles
- Strong clinical judgement and a commitment to safe, high-quality patient care
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- A positive, team-focused approach and the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams
- The ability to remain calm, organised, and adaptable in a busy theatre setting
- A flexible mindset and willingness to support a range of surgical specialties
- Orthopaedic experience would be advantageous
- Previous exposure to private healthcare settings is beneficial
