Southern Cross Wellington Hospital is a private elective surgical hospital. The hospital features day procedure facilities, five operating theatres and a modern High Dependency unit - all of which allows the hospital to provide for the needs of a variety of patients, including those requiring complex surgical procedures. 

Clinical services include Orthopaedic surgery, Neurosurgery, Colorectal surgery, Gynaecology, Paediatric surgery, Ear, Nose & Throat, Ophthalmology, Oncology and Urology. First established in 1992, the hospital has seen significant additions and upgrades on the site over recent years. The new building adjacent to the hospital at 88 Hanson Street houses a state-of-the-art Day Stay surgical facility (Wellington Surgical Centre), Affinity Medical imaging and the Southern Cross Specialist Centre.

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Registered Nurse to join our Surgical Ward team, working permanent night shifts. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a supportive and dynamic environment delivering high-quality patient care.

Our ward supports a diverse patient population undergoing a broad range of surgical procedures. These include orthopaedic, urology, general, and gynaecological surgeries, offering you the opportunity to further develop your clinical skills across multiple specialties. You will play an integral role in providing safe, compassionate, and patient-centred care during the critical overnight recovery period.

This is a permanent part-time (0.9 FTE) position on night shift, comprising 9 shifts per fortnight, Monday through Sunday on a rostered basis.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

  • Current New Zealand Registered Nurse practising certificate 
  • Proven experience as a Registered Nurse, ideally within a surgical or acute care setting
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and autonomously during night shifts
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
  • Experience caring for patients undergoing a variety of surgical procedures (ortho, urology, general, or gynae is advantageous)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality patient care and maintaining professional standards
  • Flexibility and reliability to work rostered night shifts, including weekends and public holidays
