Southern Cross Brightside Hospital is a modern private surgical hospital located in central Auckland. Originally established on its Auckland site in Epsom in the 1940s, Southern Cross Brightside Hospital was completely rebuilt to modern, high-tech specifications and re-opened in 2000. Brightside Hospital offers a wide range of surgical services and post-operative care to around 4,500 patients each year. This four-theatre hospital provides 43 in-patient beds and 6 day-stay chairs and has a staff of nearly 100.

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

We are looking for passionate and skilled Registered Nurses to join our high-performing PACU team within a modern private surgical hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced, patient-focused environment where clinical excellence and compassionate care come together.

In this role, you’ll be at the heart of the surgical journey — delivering high-quality post-anaesthetic care, supporting patients through recovery, and ensuring their safety and comfort at every stage. You’ll work closely with anaesthetists, surgeons, and theatre teams in a collaborative, multidisciplinary setting that values teamwork, respect, and open communication.

You’ll bring strong assessment skills, sound clinical judgement, and a calm, confident presence to ensure optimal outcomes for patients. Our close-knit PACU team prides itself on being supportive, adaptable, and committed to continuous improvement. We have two roles available at our Southern Cross Brightside Hospital:

  • Full-time (1 FTE) permanent role
  • Part-time (0.4 FTE) permanent role 

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

  • Current New Zealand Registered Nurse Annual Practising Certificate
  • Minimum 2 years previous experience in PACU, ICU, ED, or acute surgical settings (preferred)
  • Strong clinical assessment and patient monitoring skills with a safety-first mindset
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team in a dynamic environment
  • Excellent communication skills and a professional, positive approach
  • A genuine commitment to patient-centred, culturally safe care
  • Flexible and available to work rostered shifts, with weekday-only hours (no weekends!)
  • PDRP Level 2–3 is desirable but not required
  • Experience within private healthcare is advantageous
