Southern Cross Christchurch Hospital is the largest hospital within Southern Cross Healthcare’s national network and easily accessed within central Christchurch. The hospital consists of ten digital operating theatres and features robotic technology with a highly experienced robotic team, advanced digital scanning technologies, and consulting facilities onsite.
The hospital provides a first-class preadmission service, admissions services, day surgery and three inpatient wards including a high dependency area. The hospital offers a wide range of elective surgical services including Orthopaedic, Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Oral and Facial Maxillary, Urology, Otolaryngology (ENT), Plastic & Reconstructive, Bariatric, General, and Endoscopic surgery.
Mō te Tūranga | About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse specialising in Orthopaedics to join our theatre team in a full-time, 12-month fixed-term position, covering parental leave. As a Theatre Nurse, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality perioperative care within our orthopaedic service. Working alongside Orthopaedic Surgeons, Anaesthetists, Anaesthetic Technicians, and fellow theatre professionals, you will contribute to the efficient delivery of a wide range of elective orthopaedic procedures.
This role offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced and specialised environment where clinical excellence, teamwork, and patient safety are at the heart of everything we do. You will utilise your perioperative nursing expertise to ensure theatre readiness, maintain high infection prevention standards, and support patients throughout their surgical journey.
We are seeking a motivated and adaptable nurse who thrives in a collaborative team environment and is passionate about delivering exceptional patient care. This is an excellent opportunity to further develop your orthopaedic theatre nursing skills while working alongside experienced clinicians in one of our busiest surgical specialties.

- Registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and an APC
- Experience as a Registered Nurse within a perioperative or theatre environment
- Orthopaedic theatre nursing experience or an interest in orthopaedic surgery
- Sound clinical knowledge and the ability to apply professional judgement in a dynamic surgical setting
- A commitment to delivering safe, high-quality care and maintaining clinical excellence
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a collaborative approach
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
- A commitment to continuous professional development and quality improvement
- Flexible and adaptable in a busy theatre environment
- Experience within a private healthcare setting is desirable
