The Te Manawa Taki Hepatitis C Service, delivered in partnership with Odyssey and DISC, is an amazing, innovative outreach service that supports increased Hepatitis C (Hep C) point of care testing and treatment, amongst people who inject drugs (PWID) and others who are at risk of Hep C. The services aim is to deliver culturally safe, trauma-informed, and person-centred care that meets the diverse needs of people across the region. 

We are now seeking a dedicated, part time, Registered Nurse to work 24 hours per week to be based in Hamilton with regional travel as required. 

Working closely with the Service Manager, you’ll take on a pivotal role in delivering accessible, community-driven care for individuals at risk of or living with Hepatitis C. You will champion best-practice approaches across the entire Hepatitis C care pathway—ensuring people receive the right support, at the right time, in the right place. You’ll also be hands-on in supporting and guiding screening efforts and mentoring a dedicated team of three Peer Navigators as they deliver vital Hepatitis C education and testing in the community.

The days of work for this role are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 8.30am – 5.00pm. Please note that some flexibility will be required from time to time though to attend the odd community event that is scheduled in the weekend. 

Our ideal applicants will have:

  • Current New Zealand nursing APC
  • Sound clinical knowledge and hands-on experience with Hepatitis C management, including diagnosis, treatment and follow up care preferred
  • Understanding of other blood-borne viruses (BBVs), including Hepatitis B
  • FibroScan training and experience in liver health assessment preferred
  • Completion of Maviret reclassification training, enabling independent prescribing, or prepared to complete this within agreed timeframe
  • Venipuncture skills or willingness to complete training
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience working with marginalised communities and a commitment to low-threshold, non-judgemental care
  • Commitment to promoting harm reduction principles and reducing stigma associated with drug use
  • Full, clean, New Zealand driver’s licence

  • A salary between $89,129 - $114,129.00 per annum pro rata depending on experience
