Fixed-Term | Full-time – 40hours per week | $35/hr | Ōmaha, Tāwharanui & Pākiri Beaches

Why This Role Stands Out
The Omaha Bay coastline is diverse and dynamic, from the popular shores of Ōmaha to the remote beauty of the Tāwharanui Peninsula and Pākiri. We’re looking for a confident, experienced Supervisor to oversee lifeguarding operations across these beaches, supporting Patrol Captains and ensuring safe, professional patrol delivery.
This is a leadership role with real impact. You’ll mentor emerging leaders, coordinate training, and help shape a high-performing safety culture across the region.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Supervise daily patrols across three distinct beach environments
- Provide on-beach leadership and support during complex conditions
- Conduct regular coaching with Patrol Captains and lifeguards
- Coordinate lifeguard training and fitness development across Omaha Bay sites
- Build collaborative relationships with clubs, SurfCom, and emergency services
- Represent SLSNR in public and interagency interactions
- Monitor unpatrolled areas and respond to emerging risks
- Apply sound judgment to manage risk and assist in undertaking rescues
- Maintain rescue gear, IRBs, RWCs, facilities & vehicles
- Champion professionalism and operational excellence
What You’ll Bring
Essential:
- SLSNZ Surf Lifeguard Award (or Bronze Medallion equivalent)
- NZ Driver’s License
- Surf First Aid (US 6400, 6401, 6402 or equivalent)
- RWC Operator Award (refreshed)
- Experience managing risk and mentoring teams in busy beach environments
Skills & Attributes:
- Strong leadership and communication style
- Confident under pressure and solutions-focused
- Great with rosters, admin, and equipment checks
- Positive, proactive and values teamwork
- Experience engaging with stakeholders like clubs & emergency services
Desirable:
- IRB Driver Award
- Advanced First Aid & Pain Relief Module
- Two seasons’ paid lifeguard experience
- Familiarity with urban beach operations and SAR coordination
