The Role: 

We are seeking a Quality Assurance & Compliance Assistant to join our busy manufacturing facility in Auckland. This is an exciting and varied, hands-on role supporting the effective operation of our Quality Assurance, Food Safety, Compliance, and Health & Safety systems within a meat processing environment.

Reporting to the Compliance Manager, you will play an important role in ensuring the production of safe, high-quality products while supporting the business in maintaining regulatory and company standards. You will work closely with the production and QA teams to monitor compliance, maintain accurate records, assist with audits and investigations, and contribute to ongoing improvement initiatives.

You will be required to follow and support strict standard operating procedures and maintain high standards of food safety, quality, hygiene, and workplace health & safety at all times. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team are essential.

Day to Day Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure ongoing compliance with Food Safety, Quality, and Health & Safety systems and requirements.
  • Maintain accurate food safety, quality, and health & safety records and documentation.
  • Support the production team in achieving food safety, quality, and health & safety goals.
  • Conduct internal audits and inspections, and coordinate relevant staff training and health & safety awareness.
  • Assist with external food safety and health & safety audits, including evaluation of findings and implementation of appropriate corrective actions.
  • Investigate customer complaints, product non-conformances, health & safety incidents, hazards, and near misses, and support appropriate corrective actions.
  • Assist with identifying workplace hazards and implementing risk controls and preventative measures.
  • Support the maintenance and continuous improvement of health & safety procedures, policies, and compliance requirements.
  • Promote a strong food safety, quality, and health & safety culture across the workplace.

The operating hours are between 6am and 5pm Monday to Friday with a minimum of 40 hours/week, the applicants must be flexible with start and finish times with the option to work additional hours as required. You may be required to work on the occasional weekend day.

Skills & Experience

  • Knowledge of food safety systems, HACCP, quality assurance, and compliance within a manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Previous quality control, food processing, or manufacturing experience will be an advantage; however, full training will be provided.
  • An understanding or interest in Health & Safety, workplace hazards, risk management, and incident reporting would be an advantage.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a strong commitment to food safety, quality, and workplace health & safety.
  • A positive, proactive attitude with a focus on achieving results and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage documentation, records, and follow up on corrective actions.
