BestStart Whangamata is seeking a passionate, dedicated Qualified and Certificated Teacher to join our warm, energetic, and tight‑knit team. Our beautiful small centre is located close to the beach, supported by an experienced teaching team and strong community connections.

This is a fixed‑term position from June to September 2026, covering extended leave. Hours: Monday & Tuesday 8.30am–3.30pm, Wednesday 8.30am–5.00pm (21 hours per week).

About the Role

Whether you are newly qualified or an experienced educator, if you are passionate about teaching young children, we would love to hear from you.

You will be working with our over‑2s in the Tui Room, our Kindy space designed across three distinct areas:

  • Indoor learning — art, craft, playdough, puzzles, building blocks, and loose‑parts play
  • Outdoor environment — water play, sandpit, and equipment that encourages movement, exploration, and social interaction
  • Outdoor mat room — family play, musical instruments, wooden blocks, and additional Kindy activities, with excellent indoor/outdoor flow and covered spaces for all‑weather play

Role Requirements

We are looking for someone who is committed to making a positive difference in the lives of young learners and who values teamwork and high‑quality practice.

You will bring:

  • BEd/Dip Teaching Level 7 (ECE or Primary) and current teacher certification
  • Strong understanding of child‑led curriculum, planning, and extending children’s learning
  • Knowledge of ECE regulations, Te Whāriki, and a commitment to compliance
  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi through everyday pedagogy
  • Passion for quality teaching and a drive to deliver excellent learning experiences
