Education

BestStart Rongotai is a small, homely early learning centre licensed for 30 tamariki, set within a beautifully refurbished house in the heart of Kilbirnie. Our centre offers a warm, inclusive environment where everyone who walks through our doors quickly becomes part of our whānau.

We take pride in creating a rich, fun, and engaging learning space where meaningful relationships flourish between children, teachers, and families. Our strong community focus sees us heading out regularly on excursions, to the local library, Rita Angus Rest Home, and nearby shops, helping tamariki build real-world connections and supporting our “set for school” philosophy.

With a stable, multicultural team and a strong sense of collaboration, this is a supportive environment where both experienced Kaiako and new graduates can thrive.

Our Philosophy & Values

At BestStart Rongotai, we believe every child’s unique potential should be nurtured. Our practice is grounded in:

  • Kindness, resilience, sustainability, and a strong sense of belonging
  • Social and emotional competence as the foundation for lifelong learning
  • Strong relationships with tamariki, whānau, our team, and the wider community
  • Celebrating diversity through inclusive practices and cultural events
  • Meaningful learning through rituals, group experiences, and exploration

Our garden-to-table programme is a highlight, with tamariki actively involved in growing and caring for our vegetable gardens—bringing sustainability and learning to life.
