Are you a passionate Qualified Teacher who loves supporting curious, capable young tamariki to learn through play, exploration and everyday experiences?

At BestStart Melling, you’ll join a warm and welcoming team where strong relationships, community connections and meaningful learning are at the heart of what we do.

Our purpose-built centre welcomes tamariki from three months to five years. We celebrate the diverse cultures within our centre and enjoy getting out into our local community, with regular visits and excursions helping tamariki build confidence, curiosity and a strong sense of belonging.

About the role

We’re looking for a passionate Qualified and Certificated Teacher to join our Tupu-ā-nuku Room, working alongside our 2 and 3-year-old tamariki.

Tupu-ā-nuku is a caring and nurturing space where tamariki are encouraged to follow their natural curiosity through meaningful, hands-on learning. Our play-based approach creates an environment where children feel safe, settled and confident to explore, discover and grow.

Strong partnerships with whānau are an important part of our approach. You’ll work closely with families, valuing their aspirations and ensuring each child’s individual learning journey is supported and celebrated.

This is a permanent role working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 9.15am to 5.45pm.

What we offer

Along with Full Pay Parity, you’ll enjoy:

  • Supportive mentoring and induction
  • Professional learning through Whare Ako
  • Career and leadership development opportunities
  • Discounted childcare
  • $2,000 referral bonus for referring a qualified teacher*
  • Subsidised health insurance (eligibility criteria apply)
  • Free annual flu vaccinations
  • Confidential EAP counselling and wellbeing support
  • Sick leave from your first day
  • One week of additional leave after 10 years’ service

About you

You’ll bring:

  • A Level 7 ECE or Primary teaching qualification and current certification
  • A passion for working with 2 and 3-year-old tamariki
  • Knowledge of child-led curriculum, planning and assessment
  • An understanding of Te Whāriki and ECE regulations
  • A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • A genuine love of creating engaging, hands-on learning experiences

If you’re a nurturing and enthusiastic Kaiako who enjoys supporting tamariki as they build confidence, independence and a love of learning, we’d love to hear from you.
