BestStart Halswell Road is seeking passionate, dedicated, and relationship‑focused Kaiako to join our warm and collaborative team. We currently have two fixed‑term parental leave cover positions available and welcome applications from teachers who value strong connections with tamariki and whānau, child‑led learning, and a supportive team culture.

About the Roles

We have two upcoming fixed‑term opportunities:

  • 40 hours per week, Prep Room (3.5–5 years) - This is a parental leave cover from May 2026 to May 2027. You will work within our Prep Room, supporting older tamariki as they build confidence, independence, and school‑ready skills. A rotating roster applies, with a mix of open and close shifts. New graduates are welcome to apply.
  • 30 hours per week, Nursery (0–2 years) - This maternity leave cover runs from May 2026 to December 2026. This role is Monday to Thursday in our Nursery, where responsive care, calm routines, and secure relationships guide our practice with our youngest learners. We are seeking a fully registered and ECE qualified Kaiako, with experience preferred.

About BestStart Halswell Road

At our centre, relationships guide everything we do. Strong, trusting connections with whānau and tamariki help us create meaningful, aspirational learning experiences. Our team values fun, curiosity, and celebrating the diverse cultures within our community. We regularly hold cultural events and fundraising activities that bring our centre whānau together.

Located on the main road into Halswell, we are within walking distance of the Halswell Domain, which we visit often for spontaneous outdoor learning experiences. Tamariki bring their own lunchboxes, supporting independence and self‑care skills, while we provide nutritious morning and afternoon teas each day.
