The role  

This permanent, full-time position, based at Regional House in Palmerston North or our Kairanga Depot, offers the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of river management, flood protection and capital infrastructure projects that make a real difference to our region.

Reporting to the Team Leader Capital Projects, you'll work on projects from concept through to completion, ensuring they are delivered safely, sustainably, on time and within budget. You'll oversee project planning, procurement, contract management, budgeting, governance and reporting while working closely with consultants, contractors, iwi and hapū, landowners, government agencies and internal teams.

The successful candidate may be appointed as either Project Engineer or Project Manager, or Senior Project Engineer or Senior Project Manager, depending on their qualifications, experience, professional expertise, and the organisational requirements of the role. In addition to providing strategic leadership, a senior role is expected to provide technical expertise and guidance, mentor colleagues and help shape best practice and continuous improvement across the Capital Projects Team.

About you 

You're an experienced project professional with strong technical, project and stakeholder management skills who enjoys delivering infrastructure projects.

You'll bring:

  • A tertiary qualification in Project Management, Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
  • A current full Class 1 driver's licence.
  • At least three years' experience delivering infrastructure, civil, environmental or capital projects.
  • A sound understanding of project governance, budgeting, procurement and contract management, ideally using NZS 3910.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with iwi and hapū, contractors, consultants, landowners and communities.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant New Zealand legislation, engineering standards and health and safety requirements.

Project management certification and experience in regional or local government, river management or flood protection projects would be an advantage.
