Produce Manager
Bidfood is New Zealand’s leading foodservice distributor, proudly supplying quality food and related products to customers nationwide. We’re currently seeking an experienced Produce Manager to lead our Produce Department at the Waipapa branch.
This is a hands-on leadership role with responsibility for sourcing, pricing, profitability, food safety and team performance ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, commercial environment and has a genuine passion for fresh produce.
About the role
Reporting to the General Manager, you will be responsible for the end-to-end management of the Produce Department, including:
- Sourcing and purchasing high-quality produce that meets Bidfood standards
- Building and maintaining strong supplier relationships, including regular market engagement
- Accurate forecasting to maximise sales while minimising wastage
- Setting purchase and selling prices to achieve budgeted gross profit
- Managing receiving, storage, stock rotation and wastage reporting
- Approving invoices and reconciling freight, crates and supplier credits
- Driving sales opportunities through weekly specials, seasonal ranges and collaboration with the sales team
- Leading, training and developing the produce team to meet performance and culture expectations
- Ensuring compliance with Food Safety (HACCP/FCP), Health & Safety, and company systems
- Contributing to branch strategy, EBIT performance and continuous improvement
About you
You’ll bring:
- Proven experience managing produce buying, pricing and supplier relationships
- Strong commercial acumen with confidence managing GP, wastage and budgets
- Excellent organisational and systems skills with high attention to detail
- Leadership experience with a collaborative, people-focused approach
- Strong communication skills across operations, sales and suppliers
- A proactive mindset and the resilience to manage seasonal and market fluctuations
Experience in foodservice, wholesale or FMCG environments will be highly regarded.
