We are looking for a Produce Buyer who will be responsible for the procurement and management of assigned commodities, to be part of our Bidfood Fresh Division team. Focus on improving Bidfoods Market share and sales within our designated area. 

Skills and Experience

You should have a broad knowledge of fresh produce and a solid business acumen. Strong organisational and communication skills. You will be computer literate, especially with spreadsheets.

You will display excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills for maintaining effective business relationships with peers, senior management, customers and vendors.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities / Skills

· Act as primary contact with suppliers: negotiate and collaborate on pricing, product assortment and promotions.

· Continually identify and determine optimum source of supply to ensure best cost and quality.

· Seek out new items to ensure we have the optimum assortment.

· Manage & review current suppliers' performances and work diligently with them to improve. Continuously seek out new vendor partners.

· Manage inventory, shrink & service levels to meet or exceed company expectations.

· Frequently inspect & assess all incoming goods to ensure that the quality & sizing meets our standards.

· Hands-on in the warehouse. Able to "jump in" and support the teams when needed.

· Conduct post analysis to track sales to ensure proper projections for future procurement.

· Maintain and review price files and competitive price checks to ensure we have costs that allow us to be priced competitively within the market we operate.

· Must have the capacity to take initiative for making appropriate decisions and have strong analytical and problem solving skills.

· Ability to field calls, after hours and on weekends, with production, warehouse, suppliers and trucking companies as needed.

· This role requires a pro-active, energetic self-starter, who can multi-task, quickly adapt to a variety of demands, and troubleshoot in an ever-changing environment.

All applicants must be able to provide a minimum of two verbal references, have a clean Full Drivers Licence, agree to undergo security checks and will be required to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test. You must also be eligible to work in New Zealand to apply for this role.
