Principal Platform Engineer – Cards and Payments

Make an impact at the heart of TSB’s payments ecosystem

In this role, you’ll lead through influence, champion platform health and stability, and drive continuous improvement across our Cards & Payments environment.

You’ll become our go‑to expert on how Cards & Payments integrate across TSB and with external providers, ensuring we deliver solutions that are secure, compliant, scalable, and future‑ready.

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading the technical design, development and delivery of BAU changes across cards and payment integrations.
  • Providing expert advice on solution requests, reviewing documentation and ensuring all changes align with platform standards and business objectives.
  • Ensuring compliance with PCI DSS, ISO 8583/20222 and Mastercard scheme requirements.
  • Identifying and managing technical dependencies to ensure smooth, coordinated delivery across teams.
  • Supporting vendor management by reviewing proposed solutions and deployment plans (e.g., payment switch, card issuing, fraud and financial crime, Mastercard).
  • Maintaining accurate, up‑to‑date technical documentation to support effective decision‑making and long‑term platform health.
  • Leading vulnerability triage and mitigation to maintain security, integrity, and compliance.
  • Contributing to quality assurance and operational monitoring to meet SLAs and platform performance targets.
  • Mentoring team members, sharing expertise, and uplifting capability across the Cards & Payments space.

What you’ll bring

  • 5+ years’ experience in technical leadership roles.
  • 5+ years’ experience in platform and application management.
  • A relevant degree in computer science, information systems, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with a proven ability to lead and influence.
  • Commercial experience working with Cards & Payments platforms within financial services.
  • Deep knowledge of payment networks and standards (ISO8583, ISO20222, PCI DSS).
  • Solid API and integrations background.
