The role 

In this pivotal role, you will oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of our advanced communication networks, including fibre optic, microwave, and radio systems. Your primary focus will be to ensure optimal network performance and reliability while providing engineering oversight throughout the entire project lifecycle, from concept to execution. You’ll undertake the installation and programming of communications equipment, ensure compliance with spectrum licensing, and assist to develop budget forecasts for both capital and operational expenditures. Additionally, you will spearhead strategic engineering initiatives, collaborate with cross-functional teams.

We are seeking a Principal Network Communications Engineer to join our team, responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our communication networks that encompass both modern and legacy infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with communication systems, including fibre optics, microwave, and radio technologies. A solid understanding of various communication protocols, such as DNP3 and Modbus, is beneficial. You should be adept at designing communication systems, programming radio and routing devices, and troubleshooting issues. Additionally, you will manage complex projects while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams, vendors, and stakeholders to deliver innovative solutions.

Skills & Experience

You should be adept at designing communication systems, programming radio and routing devices, and troubleshooting issues. Additionally, you will manage complex projects while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams, vendors, and stakeholders to deliver innovative solutions.  

Previous experience with technical design, drawing and designing schematic drawings and High Voltage and Low Voltage switching detailed diagrams. Knowledgeable about Electricity Act and associated Regulations, EEA SM-EI manuals, Health & Safety in Employment Act and associated Regulations, and Resource Management Act. You will be great with communication, and this includes writing specifications and marked up designs for construction plans.
