Pou Whanau Connector
Currently, we have a vacancy for a permanent, full-time (Monday to Friday) Pou Whānau Connector. Working collaboratively alongside a wider Te Ara Oranga Northland team, Odyssey’s Pou Whānau Connectors are based at our community hub in Whangarei, providing education as well as links to treatment, cultural support and/or other community support for meth users and their whānau.
To be successful in this role you will be a people-focused person with strong community connections, including relationships with local hapū/iwi, and have the ability to build positive, effective relationships with a diverse range of people.
Our ideal candidate will also have:
- 2-3 years’ experience working with tāngata whai ora and their whānau, hapu and iwi in a care setting, OR up to 1 years’ relevant work experience and a tertiary qualification (level 6/7) e.g. Diploma or Bachelor of Counselling, Social Work, Alcohol or Other Drugs (AOD)
- Demonstrated knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Māori Tikanga (preferably Ngāti Whatua and/or Ngā Puhi iwi)
- Knowledge of kaupapa Māori models of health and their application to whai ora Māori
- Demonstrated understanding of the dynamics of whāungatanga
- Proven record of establishing and maintaining community networks and partnerships in a culturally appropriate way, including with kaumatua, kuia, marae and hapu
- A general understanding of the cultural norms and traditions of Pacific peoples
- Relevant training in working with people with AOD and/or mental health issues
- A strengths-based approach and experience of counselling and/or mentoring others
- Experience of working in the social services, health, mental health or Addictions sectors
- A full NZ driver’s license
