Port of Tauranga is New Zealand’s largest port and international cargo gateway. We are a unique and dynamic operation, spanning across 190 ha of land across Tauranga and Mount Maunganui. Our sites are Customs Controlled Areas, governed by strict access controls to manage over a million people who swipe in and out of our gates on an annual basis.

Port of Tauranga Security are responsible for providing a professional security service which maintains the integrity of our security systems. This involves duties such as 24/7 security surveillance, gate security, perimeter control, incident response, and inspections.

We have an exciting opportunity to join this tight-knit and highly effective team. Full training will be provided – we’re looking for someone keen to learn with a high regard for health and safety. 

Security Officers serve to ensure access to operational areas is authorised, and port users are compliant with Port policies and practices. Safety and protection of staff, port users, and property is a priority. 

This is a full-time position, working across an equal time on, time off roster (4 shifts on, 4 shifts off). Shifts are 12 hours long during the day and night, including weekends. 

To be successful in your application, you will be:

· An active problem solver;

· Diligent, observant, and proactive;

· Able to work well under pressure and deal with difficult people;

· A confident communicator;

· Computer literate, competent using the Microsoft Suite and learning new software;

· Able to engage with people of all different backgrounds;

· Confident to work in heavy industrial areas; 

· Strongly focused on health, safety and the environment;

· Presentable and approachable, with a passion for customer service;

· Available to work a shift roster, including night shift and weekends.

Previous experience in a security or compliance role would be an advantage, but is not required. We want to speak to candidates who can demonstrate experience dealing with customers and can work both as part of a team and independently.

A current, full driver’s licence and legal entitlement to work in New Zealand is also required.
