Are you an experienced Peer Support Specialist wanting to inspire hope for recovery when someone is at their most vulnerable?

We are looking for a Peer Support Specialist with health sector/addictions experience for a brand-new service delivered in partnership with CADS. The service provides continuing care for tāngata whai ora who are going through the SACAT (Substance Addiction - Compulsory Assessment and Treatment) process and who have returned from having a period of compulsory treatment. Support is also offered to their whānau. You will be using your lived experience while supporting tāngata whai ora and their whānau through this journey.

Based with our New Lynn community hub Te Tāwharau; this community-based pilot covers the whole Auckland region from Wellsford down to Port Waikato. The service is mobile with access to a flexi-fund, ensuring we are adequately resourced to provide agile, creative and responsive support.

You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team that supports whai ora with addiction (alcohol & drug) and co-existing physical and mental health challenges on their recovery journey. The service hours are 10am – 6pm, with some flexibility required to be responsive to tangata whai ora and their whānau.

An inspiring Peer, you will also have:

  • Completed Peer Employment Training and/or a relevant L4 qualification (we may assist with further training)
  • Experience of sharing your lived experience in a health, mental health and/or addictions setting
  • Excellent relationship management skills and the ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders & external agencies
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and of the cultural norms and customs of tangāta whenua, Pacific peoples and other diverse cultural groups
  • Strong communication, prioritisation and organisational skills
  • A collaborative approach and ability to work flexibly in a changing environment
  • A full New Zealand driver's licence

In return we offer:

  • A competitive salary of $55,910 to $63,564 depending on qualifications and experience.
  • A work car (for service delivery and commuting to/from work) + a laptop and mobile phone
  • 22 days annual leave and 5 days paid study leave per annum
  • A Monday to Friday role, no shift or weekend work
  • The opportunity to be involved in the development of a new community service.
