The Northland Mobile Hepatitis C Service is an amazing, innovative peer-led outreach service that supports increased Hepatitis C (Hep C) point of care testing and treatment, amongst people who inject drugs (PWID) and others who are at risk of Hep C.

We are now seeking a dedicated fixed term (until June 2025), part time, Peer Navigator for this service working 24 hours per week predominantly Monday to Friday as rostered by the Project Manager based on the weekly service needs. Please note that some flexibility will also be required from time to time to attend community events that are scheduled after hours or in the weekends.

This role is a great opportunity for you to be involved in the delivery of a high-quality culturally appropriate service. This is your chance to utilize your strong community and people engagement, relationship building and promotion skills to raise awareness of best practice in harm reduction and really make a difference to your community by facilitating access to treatment for people in need.

Please note that as these are Peer based roles having lived experience (of Hepatitis C and/or injecting drug use) could be really beneficial to you and the impact you will be able to make.

In this role you will work closely with a Project Manager to deliver Hep C testing at vibrant and educational community outreach events in partnership with kaupapa Māori providers and other pivotal community stakeholders.

You’re also going to be involved in supporting some key aspects of the mobile service delivery, so it operates like a well-oiled machine, from administering testing processes for service users to delivering outstanding community outreach events.

As you can imagine strong established relationships are crucial to the success of this type of service, especially with kaupapa Māori providers, community groups, social services, Corrections and other mental health and addiction services throughout Northland. If you feel that you have the ability to create and maintain authentic individual and community-based relationships, then make sure you tell us all about it.

We also have some great resources (equipment, supplies including a dedicated service vehicle!) so you will also need to ensure that you are on top of all aspects related to supporting the management of these including our service vehicle.

Our ideal candidates will have:

  • Up to 1 year’s relevant experience would be great if you have it, including experience working in a community and/or public facing role
  • Knowledge of or willingness to undertake training in the administration of Hep C testing and develop broader awareness of Hep C
  • Understanding of and sensitivity to PWID related and other substance use, mental health stigma and discrimination
  • Understanding of Te Tiriti of Waitangi and its application to this role
  • Full current New Zealand driver’s license
  • Knowledge of kaupapa Māori providers (preferred)

In return, we offer:

  • A salary between $55,494 and $63,814 per annum pro rata depending on qualifications and experience
  • A trusted, stable organisation, dedicated team and supportive work environment
