Mō Tēnei Tūranga Mahi | About the Role

We are looking for a Permanent Part-Time Payroll Administrator (minimum 22.5 hours per week, ideally worked over three days with some flexibility) to join our payroll team in Hawke's Bay. This is a great opportunity to develop your payroll career while contributing to meaningful, behind-the-scenes improvements. If you enjoy improving processes, adapting to new ways of working, and supporting managers and employees with payroll-related matters, this role will suit you well.

The appointing salary for this role will be dependent on skills and experience.

The Payroll Administrator is based in People, Culture and Wellbeing reporting to the Payroll Manager and will be responsible for:

  • Monitoring timesheet submissions and proactively following up with managers to ensure team timesheets are completed and approved within payroll deadlines.
  • Reviewing timesheets for accuracy, completeness and compliance with company policies.
  • Maintaining employee records, including new starters, role changes and terminations.
  • Responding to payroll enquiries from employees and managers in a professional and timely manner.
  • Reconciling payroll data to resolve discrepancies promptly.
  • Ensuring compliance with employment legislation, payroll regulations and company policies.
  • Supporting month-end and year-end payroll activities.
  • Maintaining the confidentiality and security of payroll information.
  • Ensuring all changes are supported by correct documentation and systematically filed.
  • Maintaining data integrity through regular audits and accurate record-keeping.
  • Assisting with general office administration and day-to-day support tasks.
  • Preparing payroll reports and providing payroll information to the Payroll Manager as required.
  • Processing leave requests, allowances, deductions and other payroll adjustments.
  • Executing daily data entry, payroll maintenance and payroll processing using PayGlobal.
  • Calculating wages, salaries, allowances and final termination payments.
  • Managing PAYE, KiwiSaver and other payroll deductions, ensuring accurate and timely filing requirements.
  • Administering leave entitlements and calculations in accordance with the Holidays Act.
  • Acting as a key point of contact for payroll-related enquiries and resolving issues in a timely manner.

He kōrero mōu | About You

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Minimum 3+ years of end-to-end payroll experience within New Zealand.
  • Knowledge of NZ payroll legislation, including ACC, KiwiSaver and PAYE taxation.
  • Experience using payroll systems (e.g. PayGlobal) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience managing payroll deadlines and working in a high-volume environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, numerical and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication, relationship-building and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of New Zealand employment legislation, including minimum wage requirements and employment agreements.
  • A friendly and professional phone manner.
  • The ability to remain calm, reliable and focused while working to tight deadlines.
