We’re now looking for an experienced Packhouse Quality and Phytosanitary 2IC to help drive and embed a strong quality culture within our packhouse and cool store operations.

About the Role

This role plays a critical part in leading and supporting quality operations across the packhouse. You’ll champion compliance, food safety, and customer specifications while supporting and stepping in for the Q&P Shift Lead as required. Working closely with the Quality & Compliance Manager and the Production Manager, you’ll help ensure our end-to-end quality framework delivers premium products to global markets.

We now have two opportunities availalbe, one on day shift and one on night shift.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Systems & Documentation

  • Keep packhouse and cool store quality records and reports accurate, complete, and on time
  • Use and support quality inspection software and systems
  • Maintain packhouse quality procedures and HACCP requirements

People & Leadership

  • Support and supervise the shift quality team alongside the Q&P Shift Lead
  • Provide shift cover for the Q&P Shift Lead during absences
  • Assist with training and competency assessments for QC staff and graders
  • Maintain all training and assessment records
  • Liaise with IVA as required

Inspections, Audits & Compliance

  • Complete container, online fruit, and shelf-life inspections
  • Assist with setting and maintaining QC standards and line-ups
  • Carry out investigative inspections (e.g. grading variances)
  • Participate in quality meetings and provide weekly feedback
  • Complete internal audits and reviews

Continuous Improvement & Support

  • Contribute to quality and compliance planning and reviews
  • Assist with cross-departmental support as directed
  • Support orchard-based quality activities during the off-season
  • Contribute to innovation, quality, food safety, and continuous improvement projects
  • Always role model health, safety, and compliance best practice

About You

You are proactive, organised, and confident in supporting quality operations in a fast-paced packhouse environment. You’re comfortable leading people, adapting to change, and maintaining strong compliance standards.

You will bring:

  • Proven experience in quality control and HACCP systems within apple export packhouse and cool storage operations
  • Completed Phytosanitary training
  • Experience leading and training teams
  • Strong computer skills 
  • A proactive and solutions-focused mindset
  • Flexibility with working hours
  • Cultural awareness and empathy within diverse teams
  • A strong commitment to health and safety
