  Tēnei Tūranga Mahi | About the Role 

Pūkenga Reo are experts of te reo Māori and Māori tikanga and kawa. This specialist role encompasses leadership alongside teaching responsibilities and is integral to our Social Practice degree programmes, across our Centre for Health & Social Practice (CHASP) and Wintec. 

The appointing salary for this role will be between $87,600 and $109,500, dependent on skills, qualifications and experience.  

The Pūkenga Reo is based in CHASP reporting to the Social Practice Team Manager - Maria Ranga and will be responsible for: 

  • Providing teaching and leadership of te reo Māori, tikanga and kawa 
  • Teaching Te Tiriti o Waitangi and colonisation across the 3 years of Paetahi Tumu Kōrero - Bachelor of Counselling, the Bachelor of Social Work and the new degree, Te Ata Mahina 
  • Organising and running marae noho and offsite fieldtrip 
  • Organising the Social Practice team in running block courses and marae noho 
  • Leading and/or supporting the centre and Wintec wide karakia, whakawhanaungatanga, whakatau, pōwhiri and graduation. 
  • Leading and supporting Māori kaupapa for programmes across Centre for Health & Social Practice

To be successful in this role you will be: 

  • Matatau i te reo Māori 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of tikanga and kawa Māori 
  • Ability to guide, implement and uphold marae protocols and processes 
  • Sound knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the impacts of colonisation 
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills 
  • Patience and understanding supporting resistant or hesitant learners 
  • Ability to manage and address conflict in culturally responsive ways 
  • Strong leadership capabilities 
  • Demonstrates respectful and mana enhancing relationship practices with ākonga, Wintec staff and stakeholders.
