Southern Cross North Harbour Hospital is the only private surgical in-patient hospital on the Auckland’s North Shore. North Harbour Hospital has 8 Operating Rooms, a 14 bed Post Anaesthetic Care Unit, a modern well-equipped day stay facility unit and a 70-bed ward which includes a 4-bed intermediate care facility (ICF). 

Surgical specialities include General Surgery, Gynaecology, Oral & Maxillofacial surgery, Urology, Orthopaedic surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive surgery, Urology, Otolaryngology and Robotic Surgery. In addition to the hospital, the broader North Shore campus is also home to a purpose-built endoscopy suite, on-site cardiology services, cancer care, pharmacy, sports medicine, radiology and more.

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

We’re on the lookout for an Orderly to join our supportive team on a fixed-term contract (6 months) at a private surgical hospital where teamwork, care, and a positive attitude are key. This role is Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week on a roster. 

In this role, you’ll be right at the heart of hospital operations! You will provide a prompt and respectful patient transfer service between wards, day stay units, theatre, and recovery. Alongside patient care, you’ll help keep our hospital running smoothly by restocking consumables, cleaning and checking equipment, and supporting our clinical staff across the theatres and wards, all under the guidance of the Patient Services Manager. 

You’ll play a key role in the day‑to‑day flow of the hospital, supporting patients, clinical teams, and services to ensure everything runs safely and efficiently. This is a hands‑on role where you will help create a safe, well‑organised environment focused on high‑quality patient care.

This is a full-time (1 FTE), fixed term position for 6 months, based in our Southern Cross North Harbour Hospital.

  • A strong customer‑service mindset, with the ability to support patients in a respectful, dignified, and compassionate way 
  • Confidence assisting nursing staff with patient lifting, positioning, and transfers 
  • A practical, hands‑on approach to cleaning, waste management (including infectious waste and sharps), and linen handling 
  • The ability to manage stock accurately, including checking deliveries, rotating stock, monitoring expiry dates, and processing purchase orders 
  • Comfort working across wards, theatres, recovery, and support services such as SSD and radiology 
  • Good communication skills and a willingness to respond promptly to requests and phone calls 
  • An understanding of, and respect for, the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, demonstrated through manaakitanga (respect) and cultural safety
