Automotive Engineering & Teaching Resource Technician

We are looking for a practical, creative and technically minded person with skills in automotive electrical systems, automotive driveline and although not essential engineering skills would be beneficial , and a genuine passion for creating resources that help people learn.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a modern, well-equipped workshop alongside a team with a wide range of trade and technical skills. You’ll play an important role in developing, maintaining and repairing the practical teaching resources used to deliver high-quality automotive and engineering education.

About the role

Working 5 days per week, 7.5 hours per day, you will be responsible for creating and maintaining a wide range of practical teaching resources and equipment across our level 3 pre trade and level 4 block course spaces .

Your work may include:

  • Designing and building innovative teaching aids, training rigs and practical learning resources.
  • Creating and modifying automotive electrical and mechanical training equipment.
  • Maintaining, diagnosing faults in, and repairing existing teaching resources.
  • Fabricating and adapting components to suit teaching and learning requirements.
  • Working with vehicles, automotive systems, electrical components, mechanical equipment and workshop machinery.
  • Supporting the development of new practical learning activities and resources.
  • Collaborating with colleagues from a variety of trade and technical backgrounds.
  • Ensuring workshop equipment and teaching resources are safe, functional and fit for purpose.
  • Using your initiative and problem-solving skills to find practical solutions to technical challenges.
  • Setup and pack down of practical teaching spaces.

About you

We’re looking for someone who enjoys making things work — and making things better.

You will ideally have:

  • Strong automotive electrical knowledge and practical experience.
  • Mechanical engineering and/or fabrication skills.
  • Experience diagnosing, repairing and modifying mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • A practical, hands-on approach and excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • The ability to read technical information, drawings and wiring diagrams.
  • An interest in designing and developing practical teaching resources.
  • A creative mindset and enthusiasm for turning ideas into working solutions.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a diverse team.
  • A strong commitment to workshop safety and quality workmanship.
  • The ability to work independently while also contributing positively to a collaborative workshop environment.

Experience in an education, training or teaching-resource environment would be an advantage, but a passion for helping others learn is just as important.
