Agriculture/Forestry/Fishing

Our client is a well-established rural services business supporting dairy farmers across the Waikato and Bay of Plenty. From milking systems and pumps through to water reticulation, effluent systems, rural products, and breakdown support, they play a critical role in keeping farms running.

We're looking for a practical, people-focused Operations Manager to help lead the day-to-day operation and support the continued growth of the business.

The Opportunity

This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll work closely with the owner to keep the wheels turning across two sites. You'll lead a team of around 15 staff members, ensure jobs run smoothly, customers are looked after, and the business continues to operate efficiently.

This isn't a desk-bound management role. You'll be out with the team, talking with customers, solving problems, and helping drive improvements across the operation.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and supporting field technicians, service staff, and support teams across two locations
  • Keeping jobs moving and ensuring resources are in the right place at the right time
  • Improving systems, processes, and day-to-day operational efficiency
  • Supporting staff performance, development, and accountability
  • Building strong relationships with dairy farmers and rural customers
  • Ensuring a high level of service and responsiveness during busy farming periods
  • Working alongside the owner to implement operational improvements and business priorities
  • Helping maintain a strong team culture and customer-first approach

A key focus of the role will be lifting consistency and performance in one branch while maintaining the strong foundations already in place across the wider business.

About You

You don't necessarily need to come from the dairy servicing industry, but you'll understand rural business and enjoy working in practical, fast-paced environments.

You'll likely bring:

  • Operations, branch, service, or business management experience
  • Proven experience leading and motivating teams
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills
  • The ability to bring structure, accountability, and common sense to day-to-day operations
  • Confidence working with customers, staff, and business owners alike
  • A practical, down-to-earth leadership style

Experience in dairy, agriculture, rural supplies, contracting, engineering, trades, pumping, irrigation, water systems, or a similar industry would be highly advantageous.

Most importantly, you'll be someone who enjoys being close to the action, understands the importance of great service in rural communities, and isn't afraid to roll up your sleeves when needed.

What's on Offer

  • A key leadership role within a respected rural business
  • Opportunity to make a genuine impact on performance and growth
  • Variety, autonomy, and plenty of customer and team interaction
  • Company vehicle, phone, and laptop provided
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Long-term opportunity working alongside an engaged and supportive owner
