Mō te tūraka mahi | About the role 

The School of Occupational Therapy is seeking to appoint enthusiastic Occupational Therapists/Kaiwhakaora Ngangahau with knowledge and expertise of tikanga Māori to work with the academic team as we strengthen our commitment to honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We welcome applications from tangata whenua kaiwhakaora ngangahau for this role, and those with experience, and commitment to developing culturally responsive practice. 

Based in Kirikiriroa / Hamilton, you will be part of a team to deliver occupational therapy theories and practices to ākonga (learners) studying towards a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy. Your role will be to research, develop and deliver content in our School. You will draw on your experience working as an occupational therapist/Kaiwhakaora Ngangahau, and/or contributing to the education of students in Aotearoa/New Zealand. 

As a kaimahi you will be responsible for developing and providing current and innovative blended learning opportunities within the context of our learning environment and the learning needs of our ākonga . The role has scope for extending the capabilities of the successful applicant should this be the pathway they aspire to. 

The role includes:

Ø preparing and delivering content for assigned courses within the Bachelor of Occupational Therapy

Ø using a range of approaches to ensure ākonga are engaged within their learning creating outstanding learning experiences

Ø work with colleagues to plan, develop and contribute to the review of courses to ensure they meet learning needs and occupational therapy industry requirements.

Ø provide pastoral support to our ākonga as needed.

We have available 0.6 FTE made up of 0.4 FTE permanent and 0.2 FTE fixed term until December 2024 and welcome applications from candidates who would like to be considered for either or both roles. Please indicate your preference in your cover letter.

Key to your success in this role will be your motivation and desire to be part of the development of future kaiwhakaora ngangahau | occupational therapists to practice in Aotearoa New Zealand. 

We seek someone who:

Ø is effective in their knowledge and practice on how kawa whakaruruhau | cultural safety can be demonstrated as a kaiwhakaora ngangahau | occupational therapist in an Aotearoa NZ context.

Ø is committed to help ākonga learn, with an appreciation of and understanding of diverse learning needs 

Ø will be an effective Te Tiriti o Waitangi partner, by your knowledge of Te Ao Māori, and supporting the values and tikaka of mana whenua throughout your mahi 

Ø possesses excellent communication skills with a natural ability to engage and build relationships especially maintaining mana whenua connections

Ø has a tertiary teaching qualification or a willingness to undertake training in this area

Ø has NZ registration as an Occupational Therapist with a current annual practicing certificate

Ø has good computer literacy and ability to use full suite of Microsoft products (particularly Word, Excel and SharePoint/Teams).
