About the role - The National Sponsorship and Events Manager’s programme is critical for connecting members, strengthening their governance knowledge and providing interesting and useful insight into governance issues and challenges.  The role manages and develops important relationships with our national partners and sponsors to ensure they add value for both parties, align to strategic goals and provides value to the governance community. 

Our national events include our major annual Leadership Conference - a flagship event for the IoD. You will be responsible for curating the programme of speakers, working with our conference organiser on all aspects of logistical delivery, working with the marketing and communications leads to promote the programme, and for delivering on budget targets. You will also be responsible for a range of other smaller events throughout the year that are tailored to specific member groups as well as seeking out new event opportunities, formats and channels to increase our reach and relevance. This role also is a key point of liaison for our branches to ensure we have a joined up national and local approach to events.  

The IoD is proud of the relationships it has built with its sponsors and partners and we are committed to building relationships that are relevant and aligned to our brand and build value for our members, stakeholders and the organisations we partner with. This role involves all aspects of relationship and engagement with sponsors including managing meeting cycles, delivering and reporting on strategic goals, troubleshooting, contract management and negotiation, and a good eye for spotting opportunities and being able to deliver on them. This role is also important in identifying and nurturing new relationships and all aspects of negotiating and securing contracts. 

About you - You are experienced in delivering high-quality multi-day events and working with relationship managers and/or sponsorship executives in medium to large organisations. You have demonstrated success through your strong communication, influence and strategic thinking skills, and are an innovative and creative thinker who continually seeks to achieve maximum relevance, value, impact and reach. 

In particular, we are looking for someone who came bring:

  • Three to five years’ experience working in an events manager role delivering high-quality events
  • Ideally five years’ experience in a sponsorship and/or key-stakeholder relationship role
  • Experience setting and managing budgets and delivering income targets 
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Technically savvy, creative and innovative
  • Big picture thinking and attention to detail 
  • Proven experience in delivering world class events
  • A high level of competence in identifying needs and delivering value to diverse stakeholder groups
  • The ability to work independently and manage competing priorities calmly 
  • Ideally you will have some understanding of governance and the business sector and the issues that are important to them.

This is a 13 month parental leave contract and location is flexible. It can be based out of Wellington, or Auckland. Some travel is required in this role. The ideal commencement date will be early-mid June.
