National Fleet Manager
WasteCo is a proudly New Zealand owned, publicly listed, environmental service company, experiencing strong national growth. As we expand, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced National Fleet Manager to lead our fleet strategy, enhance operational performance and drive technology integration across our nationwide operations.
This role is based in Christchurch, with regular national travel.

About the Role
As National Fleet Manager, you’ll lead the strategic and operational management of our fleet across all sites. You’ll oversee internal workshops, external maintenance providers, and fleet systems, ensuring our vehicles are safe, reliable, and cost-effective.
This is a key leadership role with influence across all levels of the business. You’ll coach and develop regional teams, manage supplier relationships, and ensure compliance with transport and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a national fleet strategy covering acquisition, utilisation, maintenance, and disposal.
- Lead internal workshop teams and manage external service providers.
- Drive fleet performance, safety, and cost efficiency across all regions.
- Oversee compliance with transport, health & safety, and environmental regulations.
- Manage fleet systems including Navman, Fleetpro, and route planning tools.
- Provide reporting and insights to the Chief Executive and wider executive team.
- Work closely with operations and finance teams to ensure fleet investments align with business needs and future growth.
- Foster a safety-first culture and continuous improvement mindset.
What You’ll Bring
- 5–10 years’ proven experience in national or large scale fleet management, transport logistics, or asset management.
- A mechanical trade certification would be advantageous, but not essential.
- Strong understanding of vehicle procurement & maintenance planning.
- Commercial acumen and the ability to deliver both strategic initiatives and day to day operational excellence.
- Strong understanding of NZ transport regulations and compliance.
- Proficiency with fleet management systems (e.g., Fleetpro, Navman).
- Excellent stakeholder and supplier management skills.
