For over 150 years we have been protecting animals who are sick, injured, neglected, abused, or abandoned. Our 30 animal centres across Aotearoa New Zealand offer sanctuary to animals in distress whilst we work tirelessly to find their forever homes. We are the only charity with the power to protect all animals including prosecuting people under the Animal Welfare Act 1999, we work hard to bring justice and uphold the laws relating to the treatment of animals.

About the Role: 

Join us in making a difference to animal welfare across New Zealand as our National Human Resource Advisor. In this pivotal role, you will provide confidential HR guidance and support to leaders and staff nationwide, aligning our values with a positive organisational culture.

This is a 12-month fixed term full time (40 hours) role, covering a period of parental leave ideally starting late July 2024.

Key Responsibilities:

  • You will be responsible for actively managing in house end-to-end mid-level employment relations, including matters such as performance management, disciplinaries, and overseeing change management processes. Ensuring they are done within above the legislative minimum best practice in a busy, fast paced environment.
  • Collaborate closely with our Employment Relations Specialist and wider People and Culture team (Health and Safety, Recruitment, and Special      Projects).
  • Partner with People Leaders to equip them with HR tools and skills for effective team management.
  • Ensure compliance with New Zealand employment legislation and implement best practice Human Resource processes.
  • Demonstrate proactive initiative and leadership in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements:

  • Genuine passion for our vision that all animal lives matter.
  • Excellent demonstrable practical understanding of the ERA 2000 and supporting legislation.
  • A desire to ensure ER matters are managed effectively and well.
  • Confidence in managing end-to-end mid-level employment relations, including performance management, disciplinaries, and change management, is essential.
  • Proven ability to take initiative and effectively lead projects to successful completion within tight timeframes.
  • Minimum 5 years' NZ-based Human Resource experience specific to independently managing ER in medium to large organisations.
  • Tertiary qualification in Human Resource is essential 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Teams, SharePoint).
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and manage conflicts effectively.
