Mō te tūraka mahi | About the role
Our Bachelor of Midwifery programme enables ākonga (learners) to remain at home with their whānau and undertake the majority of their study in their own geographical area through a blended delivery model of education. Ākonga are grouped into ‘satellites’ throughout the lower North Island/Te Ika-a-Maui and lower South Island/Te Waipounamu where we employ local midwives as Kaiako with responsibility for student support, teaching, assessment, liaison with local midwives and maternity services, and as members of the wider midwifery teaching team.
There are two permanent part-time or one permanent full-time position available.
· 0.4 FTE Lecturer/kaiako: Whanganui
We are looking for a passionate midwifery lecturer/kaiako based in Whanganui to teach on our Bachelor of Midwifery programme. As a Kaiako/Lecturer you will be responsible for coordination of ākonga learning and practice in the region. You would meet with a small hui ākonga (tutorial group) of Year 1 and/or Year 2 ākonga for three hours/ hui group per week. During hui ākonga, learners debrief their practice experiences, practice skills, and receive support and pastoral care. Learner assessment is part of this role. There may also be other teaching duties to support intensive block/ wānanga sessions during the year.
· 0.6 FTE Lecturer/kaiako
We are looking for a passionate midwifery lecturer/kaiako to teach on the Bachelor of Midwifery programme. Ideally, you will be based in the North Island however other applicants will also be considered. The FTE can be worked by more than one person.

Ko wai koe | About you
You will hold a current Annual Practising Certificate with the Midwifery Council of New Zealand and have extensive midwifery practice experience. A postgraduate qualification would be an advantage, as would teaching experience, computer literacy, and familiarity/experience with E-learning. There is an expectation that you are actively involved in the wider midwifery profession in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Support will be given to you however you will be confident in assessing student needs, developing individual learning plans, lesson planning and moderation.
Key to your success in this role will be your motivation and desire to be part of the development of future midwives to practice in Aotearoa New Zealand.
We are looking for someone who:
Ø is effective in their knowledge and practice on how kawa whakaruruhau | cultural safety can be demonstrated as a kahu pōkai | Midwife in an Aotearoa New Zealand context.
Ø is committed to help ākonga learn, with an appreciation of and understanding of diverse learning needs
Ø will be an effective Te Tiriti o Waitangi partner, by your knowledge of Te Ao Māori, and supporting the values and tikaka of mana whenua throughout your mahi
Ø possesses excellent communication skills with a natural ability to engage and build relationships especially maintaining mana whenua connections
Ø has experience in research would be an advantage
Ø has a tertiary teaching qualification or a willingness to undertake training in this area
Through recognition, empowerment and inclusion, you will give greater acknowledgement to the unmet needs of Māori, Pasifika and disabled people and their whanau.
You will have demonstrable health and safety best practices and enjoy being part of a team who support each other. You will easily be able to build and maintain relationships and communicate well via email, phone and face-to-face.
