Mental Health Support Worker - Kaimanaaki

We are looking for a skilled kaimahi to join our Oranga Hinengaro team.   Oranga Hinengaro is our community based, kaupapa Māori, high needs Mental Health service. 

Oranga Hinengaro is one of many services offered at Te Taiwhenua o Heretaunga. We are a local,  successful, nationally recognised, kaupapa Māori health and social services organisation that has been providing services to whānau in our local community for over 40 years.

Working closely with Te Whatu Ora, we provide support to those in the community and their whānau with high mental needs. As an integrated team of Registered and Clinical specialists, this support role works alongside these professionals providing wrap around support to the whaiora. 

This role works specifically with whaiora who regularly attend our community-based Day Programmes. Working closely with our Registered Nurse/Programme Coordinator you will help plan and deliver the daily activities. This also involves picking up and dropping off our whaiora so they can attend our programme. 

The Role:

  • Work alongside whaiora experiencing mental health challenges, supporting their journey to wellbeing 
  • Provide practical and emotional support, helping whānau navigate services
  • Collaborate with keyworkers, clinicians  and other services within the organsation to provide wrap around support
  • Uphold the mana of each whaiora, using a strengths-based, whānau-centred approach

What we are looking for:

  • Creativity and practical life skills you can teach whaiora 
  • A high standard of professionalism and work ethic
  • Excellent time-management skills
  • Ability to communicate with and motivate whānau from all walks of life
  • Willingness to work effectively as part of a team
  • Knowledge of kaupapa and tikanga Māori within a mental health or social context

 Essential requirements: 

  • Current and valid Full Driver’s Licence 
  • Level 4 Certificate in Mental Health OR other relevant tertiary qualification OR 
  • At least 2 years of relevant on the job experience in community-based mental health or support work.
