Things you should know about the job: 

Our Maintenance team provides electrical & mechanical maintenance support within Port Otago, across a range of assets, Ship to Shore Cranes and their associated lifting equipment, all our mobile fleet including our straddle carriers, empty handlers and a range of marine, fixed plant and ancillary equipment. This is a unique and challenging opportunity for a qualified and technically capable Mechanical Fitter to join this team on a Permanent full-time basis.  

As a Mechanical Fitter you will be responsible for completing a full range of safe maintenance and servicing activities on all our Port Otago assets. You will be carrying out preventative maintenance from detailed task documentation including regular equipment servicing and inspections, repairing identified defects, conducting modern diagnostic fault finding and working unsupervised. There are also opportunities to assist with equipment upgrades, not just installation and commissioning but also to provide input for the design and build.

This is an irregular-shift role working on a 5/7 basis within a team providing 24-hour technical support to Container Vessel operation activities based on shipping schedules and planned maintenance activities.

You will have the following Key Attributes:

  • Qualification in a fitting trade is essential 
  • Qualifications/Experience in Auto Electrical and PLC diagnostics would be highly desirable 
  • General machining and welding experience is desirable
  • Fitting experience on fixed plant in heavy industry and heavy mobile
  • Experience with maintaining heavy mobile and fixed plant in heavy industry
  • Structured technical problem-solving abilities using root cause methodology
  • Knowledge of working with modern maintenance management systems
  • Ability to provide detailed written & verbal shift handover details and work history
  • Knowledge of computerised systems. E.g., Windows, Maximo and Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrate an ability to achieve results within a performance focused team
  • Experience in working at height and the safe use of elevated work platforms and fall restraint systems
  • Can demonstrate a safe work history in a related heavy industry and commitment to Zero Harm
  • Knowledge of risk analysis, lock out tag out processes, take 5, permit to work, and hazard identification
