  • Manager People, Culture and Capability
  • Permanent | Full-time | Dunedin | Senior Leadership Team
  • Lead our people strategy. Grow leadership capability. Help shape a restorative culture.

At Presbyterian Support Otago (PSO), people and relationships sit at the heart of what we do.

For almost 120 years, we have walked alongside people across Otago – supporting older people, whānau, children and communities through aged care, social services and community-based programmes. Today, more than 600 employees and 500 volunteers contribute to that work.

We are looking for an experienced Manager People, Culture & Capability to join our Senior Leadership Team and lead the next stage of development of our people function.

This is a broad and influential leadership role. You will help shape organisational culture and capability, strengthen the confidence of our leaders and managers, and ensure our people systems and practices support excellent, sustainable services.

A particular focus will be helping us continue to build a restorative culture – one in which relationships matter, expectations are clear, people are empowered to exercise leadership within their areas of responsibility, and challenges are addressed constructively.

The opportunity

Reporting to the Chief Executive, you will lead a highly capable People, Culture & Capability team and work alongside leaders across PSO.

A key part of your role will be creating the conditions for great people leadership across the organisation – providing specialist expertise, coaching and practical support while building the capability and confidence of our people leaders to lead their teams well.

You'll bring sound judgement and expertise to complex issues, while strengthening the systems, information, tools and leadership capability that enable good decisions and effective people management across PSO.

Your portfolio is broad and includes:

  • people strategy and workforce planning
  • organisational and leadership development
  • restorative culture and employee experience
  • employment and industrial relations
  • organisational change
  • health, safety and wellbeing
  • payroll and people systems oversight
  • workforce information and insight
  • leadership and development of the PCC team.

About you

You will be an experienced people leader who can move comfortably between the strategic and the practical.

You'll understand the technical foundations of a strong PCC function, including New Zealand employment relations and legislation, but we're equally interested in how you lead.

You'll be someone who builds trusted relationships, asks good questions, brings clarity to complexity and influences effectively. You will have an enabling leadership style, with a track record of building capability and confidence in others and creating the conditions for people to take ownership and succeed.

If you're an experienced people leader excited by the opportunity to grow leadership capability, strengthen culture and help an organisation keep getting better, we'd love to hear from you.

We'd particularly value:

  • senior People & Culture/HR leadership experience
  • strong employment and industrial relations capability
  • experience leading organisational change and capability development
  • the ability to coach and influence experienced leaders
  • experience working constructively with unions
  • strong analytical judgement and an interest in using workforce information to improve decisions
  • experience leading and developing a professional team
  • a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and continuing to grow bicultural capability.

Experience in health, aged care, social services or the not-for-profit sector would be useful, but isn't essential.

Why PSO?

You'll be joining an organisation with a strong history and a clear appetite to keep evolving.

This role offers the opportunity to influence organisation-wide strategy, work closely with senior leaders and lead a capable PCC team – while contributing to services that make a tangible difference in communities across Otago.

We are founded in our Christian faith and act with the values of integrity, respect, courage, manaaki and aroha.

We offer professional development, HRNZ membership, birthday leave and a range of staff benefits.

Interested?

If you're an experienced senior People & Culture leader who is excited by the opportunity to build capability rather than dependency, strengthen culture and help an organisation keep getting better, we'd love to hear from you.
