As Marine Infrastructure Manager, you will lead the management, maintenance and optimisation of Napier Port’s marine-based infrastructure. This portfolio includes our wharf structures, revetments, beaches, breakwaters, dredging activities and oversight of aids to navigation equipment. 

Reporting to the General Manager Assets and Infrastructure, you will lead specialist contractors and work closely with infrastructure maintenance personnel, operational teams, consultants, suppliers and regulators. As a member of the Asset & Infrastructure leadership team, you will also contribute to strategic planning, lifecycle decisions, investment priorities and wider organisational objectives. 

Your key priorities will include: 

• Lead marine asset management, maintenance and lifecycle planning.
• Delivering capital, renewal and improvement projects from identified need and business case through design, procurement, construction, commissioning and close-out.  
• Providing clear people leadership by setting expectations, building capability and supporting an engaged and accountable working environment.  
• Championing Zero Harm and Just Culture practices, with a strong focus on critical risks, contractor safety and effective work controls 
• Managing operating and capital resources responsibly, balancing engineering, operational, commercial and financial considerations.  
• Building trusted relationships across the organisation and with consultants, contractors, suppliers, technical specialists and regulatory authorities.  
• Driving continuous improvement in asset information, project delivery, maintenance practices, productivity and service outcomes.  

What you’ll bring 

• Experience in civil or structural engineering, with the ability to develop safe, practical and risk-based solutions. 
• Experience leading engineering, infrastructure or capital projects through business case development, design, procurement, construction and commissioning. 
• Ability to work effectively across office and operational environments.
• Proven people leadership capability and stakeholder management skills 
• Experience working collaboratively with operational teams, consultants, contractors, suppliers and other stakeholders. 
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document engineering and project work effectively. 
• A foundational understanding of asset management principles and how lifecycle, risk and investment considerations inform decisions. 
• An understanding of how operational, commercial and financial considerations influence engineering and project decisions. 
• Professional self-awareness, including recognising the limits of your expertise and seeking specialist input when appropriate. 
• A genuine interest in marine infrastructure and working within a heavy industrial environment. 

Chartered professional status is preferred. Previous marine infrastructure experience would be valuable, but it is not essential. We are interested in the transferable engineering, project and leadership capability you can bring, as well as what attracts you to this role and operating environment.
