Crown Law provides legal advice and representation services to the Government in matters affecting the executive government. The services Crown Law provides include matters covering judicial review of government actions, constitutional questions including Treaty of Waitangi issues, the enforcement of criminal law, and the protection of revenue. Crown Law also administers the prosecution process in the criminal justice system, in particular, Crown prosecutions.

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

We are looking for experienced legal professionals to lead one of our Public Law teams as Legal Team Manager Public Law 3, playing a key integrating role in our wider group to deliver a collaborative service. 

Public Law 3 works across a diverse range of generalist public law and regulatory areas, including defence and security, business and immigration, education and internal affairs.

Each team works collaboratively with other teams across Crown Law on a wide range of issues.

The role of a Legal Team Manager is to:

• lead the delivery of effective legal advice and representation to Ministers and government departments;

• provide professional leadership to counsel, including allocation of work, coaching, mentoring and performance management;

• provide high quality legal advice and partner with colleagues in other departments to identify and manage legal risk;

• contribute to the development and implementation Crown Law’s strategic direction;

• collaborate with other managers across Crown Law and colleagues in other agencies to support that strategic direction. 

The ideal candidate will have experience managing a busy team with competing priorities, and a strong interest in organisational leadership.

Location: Te Whanganui-a-Tara | Wellington

This role is Wellington based and located next to Wellington bus and train station.

• A starting salary range of between $195,538 and $224,373 with further room to progress. The appointing salary will be based on skills and experience;
