Mō Tēnei Tūranga Mahi | About the role

We are seeking a full‑time, permanent Lecturer in Toi Māori to join Toihoukura at our Tairāwhiti Campus. This role plays a key part in delivering high‑quality teaching, learning, and creative practice within a culturally rich and supportive academic environment.

The purpose of this role is to deliver lectures, workshops, wānanga, tutorials, and technical skills to Toihoukura students based in Tairāwhiti in the fields of Māori visual arts and Māori fibre arts (traditional and contemporary).

Reporting to the Head of School – Toihoukura, you will work closely with academic colleagues, student support services, and external stakeholders. You will contribute to curriculum development, research or creative practice, student wellbeing, and the ongoing growth and reputation of Toihoukura programmes.

The appointing salary for this role will be between $80,000 and $87,000, dependent on skills and experience.

The Lecturer in Toi Māori will be responsible for:

  • Delivering engaging teaching across lectures, workshops, wānanga, tutorials, and studio‑based learning
  • Contributing to the development, review, and delivery of curriculum and course materials
  • Supporting student learning, assessment, moderation, and wellbeing
  • Building and maintaining a research and/or creative practice portfolio
  • Developing relationships with iwi, community, and industry stakeholders to support student engagement and programme promotion

He kōrero mōu | About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Expertise in Māori visual arts and Māori fibre arts, including traditional and contemporary practice
  • Knowledge of pūrākau and tikanga Māori to inform teaching and creative practice
  • Strong teaching, facilitation, and communication skills
  • Experience supporting student learning and assessment in a tertiary or similar environment
  • A relevant qualification at Master’s level, or equivalent experience
