Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About the Role

The Learning and Access Facilitator empowers ākonga to overcome academic and accessibility barriers through targeted support, skill-building, and inclusive practices. This role enhances learner success by delivering effective study strategies, fostering academic confidence, and advocating for equitable access. Supporting ākonga with disabilities through tailored services and promotes inclusive teaching and assessment practices in collaboration with academic teams.

Ākonga Success is the primary ākonga support function at Toi Ohomai - dedicated to enhancing the holistic wellbeing, learning experience, and long-term success for ākonga. This directorate leads inclusive and responsive services that support ākonga through every stage of their journey, integrating enrolment and academic support, access to learning resources, and pastoral care. Through its core functions the directorate provides streamlined, data-informed, and culturally responsive support that reflects Te Ao Māori and upholds Te Tiriti o Waitangi. By fostering collaboration across directorates and with external partners, Ākonga Success plays a vital role in creating an environment where every learner can thrive.

Ngā mahi | Key Responsibilities

• Identify and assess academic and accessibility needs and develop support plans.

• Deliver one-on-one sessions, workshops, and coordinate resources.

• Collaborate with kaiako to promote inclusive teaching and assessment.

• Build relationships with ākonga and stakeholders to ensure holistic support.

• Maintain records and contribute to service evaluation and improvement.

You bring:

• A bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field—or equivalent experience.

• Experience delivering academic and accessibility support services.

• Knowledge of inclusive, evidence-informed practices.

• Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Māori success.

• Ability to support te reo Māori, tikanga, and mātauranga Māori.

• A passion for equity and empowering diverse learners.
