Leading Hand
McKay are searching for a Leading Hand Electrician to join our Wellington Branch, based in Petone, Lower Hutt.
This is a hands-on leadership role suited to a highly skilled electrician who enjoys being on the tools while taking ownership of site delivery. As a Leading Hand, you will play a key role in bridging the gap between management and the on-site team, ensuring projects run smoothly from start to finish.
You will be responsible for coordinating daily site activities, planning workloads, and leading a small crew of electricians, electrical technicians and apprentices across a range of commercial and industrial electrical projects throughout the Wellington region. This includes managing timelines and troubleshooting issues as they arise to keep projects on track.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise an on site team.
- Coordinate daily tasks and project workflow.
- Ensure compliance with NZ electrical standards and health & safety regulations.
- Read and interpret plans and specifications .
- Liaise with project managers, supervisors, clients, and other trades.
- Mentor and support electrical technicians, apprentices and junior staff.
- Maintain high-quality workmanship and attention to detail.
About you
- NZ Registered Electrician with a current practising licence
- Minimum 5 years+ in the Electrical Industry.
- Proven experience in a leading hand or supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of commercial and/or industrial electrical install.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills .
- Ability to work independently and manage deadlines.
- A strong commitment to health & safety.
