McKay are searching for a Leading Hand Electrician to join our Wellington Branch, based in Petone, Lower Hutt. 

This is a hands-on leadership role suited to a highly skilled electrician who enjoys being on the tools while taking ownership of site delivery. As a Leading Hand, you will play a key role in bridging the gap between management and the on-site team, ensuring projects run smoothly from start to finish.

You will be responsible for coordinating daily site activities, planning workloads, and leading a small crew of electricians, electrical technicians and apprentices across a range of commercial and industrial electrical projects throughout the Wellington region. This includes managing timelines and troubleshooting issues as they arise to keep projects on track.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise an on site team. 
  • Coordinate daily tasks and project workflow.
  • Ensure compliance with NZ electrical standards and health & safety regulations. 
  • Read and interpret plans and specifications .
  • Liaise with project managers, supervisors, clients, and other trades.
  • Mentor and support electrical technicians, apprentices and junior staff.
  • Maintain high-quality workmanship and attention to detail.

About you

  • NZ Registered Electrician with a current practising licence 
  • Minimum 5 years+ in the Electrical Industry.
  • Proven experience in a leading hand or supervisory role. 
  • Strong knowledge of commercial and/or industrial electrical install. 
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills .
  • Ability to work independently and manage deadlines.
  • A strong commitment to health & safety.
