The role  

We are currently seeking a Land Management Advisor based out of our Taumarunui Service Centre. This full-time, fixed term position is for approx. 13 months to cover parental leave.

As a Land Management Advisor - Professional (LMAP) you will  deliver organisational ‘outputs’ and will develop a variety of internal and external relationships, especially with our regions farmers, landowners, contractors and community groups. The key role in this position is to advise and encourage landowners to make informed land management changes on their properties.

You will primarily be involved in soil conservation projects with particular emphasis on erosion control activities relating to our Sustainable Land Use Initiative. You may have a qualification or experience in a relevant environmental or agricultural discipline as you will be using your expertise to carry out soil and land use mapping and to design and cost erosion control programmes. Ability to use mapping databases would be an advantage. You will be working with landowners and you should have a good understanding of farming and / or forestry practices in the hill country environment.  It would be an advantage if you had knowledge in farm business systems or nutrient management.

About you 

As well as having sound technical and farming knowledge you will have very good communication skills, be able to deal with a range of customers, support and manage projects and organize work programmes for yourself, farmers and contractors. Being locally based, you will know the area, have the ability to build strong relationships with landowners and have a positive and friendly attitude. Being familiar with Horizons’ major work programmes and having knowledge of Local Government processes and procedures would be beneficial.
