Laboratory Manager

We are seeking a full-time, permanent Laboratory Manager to join our team based in Hawke's Bay. The Laboratory Manager provides leadership, coordination and operational management of EIT's Viticulture and Wine laboratories and associated facilities. This role is essential in supporting teaching, learning and research activities by ensuring laboratory services are delivered safely, efficiently and in compliance with relevant legislation. Working closely with academic staff, technicians, researchers, students and industry partners, the Laboratory Manager plays a key role in maintaining high-quality laboratory environments that contribute to learner success and programme excellence.
The appointing salary for this role will be between $65,206 and $76,548, dependent on skills and experience.
The Laboratory Manager is based in our School of Primary Industries and Viticulture and Wine Science in Hawke's Bay, reporting to the Assistant Head of School, Viticulture and Wine Science and will be responsible for:
- Managing daily laboratory operations and technical services.
- Maintaining laboratory facilities, equipment and teaching resources.
- Supporting teaching, learning and research activities through technical expertise.
- Coordinating laboratory bookings, access and resource scheduling.
- Managing equipment maintenance, servicing, calibration and certification.
- Ensuring compliance with health, safety and hazardous substances legislation.
- Maintaining laboratory compliance documentation and chemical inventories.
- Providing laboratory training, guidance and compliance oversight.
- Managing purchasing, stock control and operational resources.
- Building effective relationships with staff, students and industry stakeholders.

To be successful in this role you will have:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in science, laboratory science or a related discipline.
- Experience in laboratory operations and management.
- Knowledge of hazardous substances legislation and laboratory safety practices.
- Experience maintaining laboratory compliance systems and documentation.
- Proven ability to supervise, guide and support technical staff.
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Excellent organisational and time management abilities.
- Experience managing competing priorities, budgets and deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and laboratory databases.
- A commitment to quality assurance, health and safety, and customer service.
