Mō te tūraka mahi | About the role
We seek experienced Kitchen Hands to support our kitchen facilities at Te Pā Tauira, Otago Polytechnic’s Student Accommodation Village, and our café and catering operations. As a Kitchen Hand you’ll support the team by ensuring kitchen equipment, machinery and storerooms are fully stocked and maintained in line with food safety and hygiene, along with cleaning of dishes and wash down areas.
This role will mostly be kitchen hand duties but can also include general functions assistant duties and assisting the chefs in cooking and food preparation, in a team that love what they do.
We have various roles available to cover each day of the week. The hours are permanent and up to 20 hours per week. Shifts are usually 3:30-7:30pm during the academic terms so you get the holidays off!! There may be scope for holiday work and this can be discussed at the interview stage. There could be lunch time shifts on Saturday and Sundays. Ideal start date is 10 February 2025.
Ko wai koe | About you
You’ll have a genuine want to work in a team environment providing support in a commercial kitchen operation. You’ll have high standards of hygiene, health, and safety (food safety qualification would be an advantage). To work in our hospitality areas, you’ll have great organisational skills and be able to work well in a team environment as well as unsupervised.
You’ll take pride in your mahi (work) ensuring you and the team around you work together to achieve successful outcomes.
