Our Waiora Hinengaro service provides mental health and addiction support to tāngata whai ora, underpinned by the belief that individuals can draw on their own strengths to live meaningful lives, with whānau playing a central role in that journey.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and kaupapa Māori–aligned Gambling Harm Practitioner to join our Waiora Hinengaro team. 

This role centres on delivering holistic, whānau-focused support to individuals and families experiencing gambling harm, using culturally grounded, strength-based approaches.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assessing and responding to gambling-related harm
  • Delivering effective, strengths-based interventions
  • Supporting tāngata whai ora and their whānau on their wellbeing journey
  • Building trusted relationships within the community
  • Integrating mātauranga Māori and Whānau Ora principles into practice
  • Maintaining accurate, timely documentation

About You

You are a compassionate and motivated practitioner who is committed to empowering whānau to achieve long-term wellbeing.

You will bring:

  • Proven counselling experience (mental health and/or addiction preferred)
  • Strong understanding of kaupapa Māori and Māori models of wellbeing
  • Ability to engage effectively with whānau and community networks
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and documentation skills
  • Resilience and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • A commitment to Whānau Ora principles
