MANA AKE

Mana Ake is a school-based programme providing mental wellbeing support and promotion to Years 1 to 8 students in Hastings and Central Hawkes Bay, through a mix of individual, small-group and whole class/school support.  

Initially developed in Christchurch and Kaikoura following the Canterbury earthquakes, this programme has been so successful it has now been rolled out across eight regions including Hawke’s Bay.  

We are looking for a special person to fill our Kai Ararau – Cultural role.

About the Role:

These roles will be working in the schools and facilitating workshops delivering innovative and effective tools that give tamariki the skills they need to overcome their trauma and fears from their lived experience. 

The Kai Ararau – Cultural role has a special focus to particularly connect with our kaupapa Māori schools.  This a permanent role, Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.00pm (40 hours per week).

What We Are Looking For:

  • You need to be fluent in Te Reo and understand tikanga
  • Have an understanding of the Te Aho Matua framework that kura kauapapa operate under
  • Local connections to marae and whakapapa knowledge
  • Commitment to our organisational values and kaupapa
  • A warm, engaging personality that tamariki relate too 
  • Experience presenting information and providing support to tamariki 
  • Have empathy and understanding of trauma and its impact on behaviour
  • A Certificate in Health and/or Social Services or Education is preferable
  • A current New Zealand Full Driver’s License
