We are now seeking a passionate and committed Kaiārahi Māori to join our Adult AOD Residential team based in New Windsor. This is a permanent, full-time role supporting the wellbeing and recovery of tāngata whai ora within our residential and community programmes.

As Kaiārahi Māori, you will play an important role in strengthening the cultural foundations of our service. Working alongside one of our Adult Services Clinical Managers and the wider team, you will lead and support cultural activities, practices and programmes that reflect te ao Māori and contribute to a culturally safe and welcoming environment.

You will also support our kaimahi (staff) to build confidence in culturally responsive practice so that tāngata whai ora feel respected, supported and connected throughout their recovery journey.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and facilitate cultural activities and kaupapa Māori practices within residential and community programmes
  • Work alongside the Operations Manager, Clinical Managers and Cultural Team to deliver culturally grounded programmes
  • Support and guide kaimahi to provide culturally safe and effective support to tāngata whai ora
  • Help foster a workplace grounded in manaakitanga, whanaungatanga and respect for te ao Māori

About you

Our ideal candidate will bring:

  • At least three years’ relevant experience working in a similar or related field
  • Strong knowledge of kawa and tikanga Māori
  • Confidence with te reo Māori and cultural practices such as mihi, whaikōrero or karanga
  • Experience or confidence in kapa haka and marae protocol
  • A good understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application in health and social services
