Southern Cross’ Gillies Hospital based in Epsom, has been designed with a focus on short stay surgery and family-centred care, with four theatres, a purpose-built day-stay facility and 20 in-patient beds with ensuite facilities.
As a centre of expertise for both head and neck surgery and Otolaryngology (ENT), Gillies offers oral and Maxillofacial, Gynaecological, Plastic, and Reconstructive and General Paediatric surgery. It is backed up by friendly, highly professional nursing teams and systems designed to support patients of all ages.
Mō te Tūranga | About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse with a passion for infection prevention and patient safety to join our team as an Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) Registered Nurse on a permanent part-time basis (0.6 FTE).
This is a varied and rewarding role where you'll work closely with clinical teams and hospital leaders to support the delivery of our infection prevention and control programme. You'll play an important part in helping ensure the highest standards of patient care, quality, and safety are maintained across the hospital.
Working alongside experienced IPC professionals, you'll contribute to infection surveillance, auditing, staff education, quality improvement initiatives, and antimicrobial stewardship activities. You'll also help to promote evidence-based practice and provide guidance on infection prevention across the organisation.
This role would suit a clinically experienced nurse who has an interest in infection prevention and is looking to develop their expertise within this specialist area. You'll be supported to grow your knowledge, build valuable relationships across the hospital, and make a meaningful contribution to patient outcomes.

- Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a valid APC
- Previous involvement in Infection Prevention and Control activities or committees
- Broad clinical nursing experience, ideally within a surgical or acute care environment
- A genuine interest in Infection Prevention and Control and promoting best practice
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Confidence delivering education and supporting colleagues
- The ability to analyse information, identify opportunities for improvement, and contribute to positive change
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Sound computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications
- A collaborative and approachable working style
- Completion of an IPC Foundation/Fundamentals course and/or Hand Hygiene Auditor certification is desirable
- Experience delivering education or coaching others is desirable
